PET SEMATARY 1989

Just a few days ago I finished the novel "Animal Graveyard" by Stephen King. And as usual I had to see what the movie was like. Which, by the way, is the one that makes Stephen become known to much greater levels.

This is the story of the Creed family. Louis has just gotten a new job in the infirmary at Ludlow University. Because of this the whole family ends up moving into a nice house that is right down the road. And through which many trucks pass at all times of the day. And on the other side is old Jud Crandall's house.

At one point the family cat (Church) is hit by one of these trucks. Old Jud seeing this feels the need to help Louis and take him to a cemetery behind the animal cemetery. In this old place the land is different, harder, more stony. But the worst thing is that it is cursed.

Here they decide to bury the cat. Without knowing Louis that hours later the cat would be back home. And although it was not the same, it was alive.

This fact will haunt Louis' mind when a truck runs over his little son. He will be tempted to bury him on the spot and see if his little boy will come back as well as possible.

And although he receives warnings from both his friend Jud not to do so, and also from the ghost of a boy who died at the beginning of the film. Louis won't understand reason and will take the test.

I love that as much as possible the movie is quite faithful to the book (of course if the movie is good without being faithful to it I don't care, but those are personal tastes).

The movie has a scene at the end that made me very sad. It's when Louis injects Cage with a lethal liquid to kill him. Little Cage slowly backs away, saying "it's not fair, it's not fair" and when he falls down sitting up it broke my heart.

I also love that this Louis didn't learn from the first time and tries to revive someone else again when he discovers his dead wife's body. And someone who didn't read the book will surely think "what an asshole this Louis" but the reality is that that hidden cemetery has an evil force that makes people go and bury animals and people there. In this way that place is fed, as it were.

Well, I loved the movie. The truth is that it flew by and it lasts almost 2 hours. I didn't even realize when I was already watching that final scene with Rachel and Louis in the kitchen of their home.
