I just saw one of the saddest movies that can exist.
"The Bride of Frankenstein" is the continuation of "Frankenstein" from 1931, here we will see that in that fire did not end the life of the creature. We will learn how his tragic life continues in a world where no one gives him the possibility to make himself understood, and where misunderstandings lead only to suffering and death.
I love how the film begins, as we see Mary Shelley herself talking to Lord Byron and Percy Shelley about the poor creature and its tragic end. To which Mary replies that the story did not end there and that she would tell what happened next.
The creature survived that crowd and that fire. And the first thing he does is to kill an old couple who wanted to make sure that he had died.
In this movie Doctor Victor Frankenstein no longer wants to continue with his experiments, he has learned his lesson, however a new scientist appears, Doctor Pretorius, who wants to create a woman to be the companion of this creature. But despite many attempts, he has never succeeded.
With the help of the creature they manage to force Victor Frankenstein to help them in this experiment.
There is a very sad (and for me even philosophical) scene where the creature comes to the house of a blind man, he can not speak and the blind man can not see. Both are sad and lonely. And in spite of their condition, they manage to establish a friendship that is very emotional and I'm not going to lie, it made me cry. It is incredible the performances of these actors, because I think it could have been a real disaster, it could have been funny or ridiculous, but between them they complement each other and transmit their feelings in a very convincing way.
I can't help but mention how many times I felt bad for this creature. Everyone treated him badly. And the worst part is that because of this he makes mistake after mistake. Murdering those closest to him.
Even though the new monster, only appears for a few minutes I loved it. I found her to be a most interesting creature and I was struck by her reaction to what could be her husband.
I learned that this movie received a lot of censorship at the time, because the scientists were compared to God, also because in one scene the creature knocks over a religious statue, and also because at the beginning of the movie Mary Shelley supposedly has a very pronounced cleavage.
As soon as I finished watching the movie I started looking for information about the actor who plays Victor Frankenstein (Colin Clive) and I found out that two years after filming this movie he died of tuberculosis. This gave me chills as he was a very young man at the time.
I don't want to make this entry too long, I will simply say that this movie, as well as the first part, seem to me masterpieces worthy of being seen by anyone who likes cult cinema, horror stories and complex stories with characters that are left hanging in our head after watching the film.
